Abstract

Molecules of the title compound, (E)-2-(2-phenylethenyl)-1,3,2-benzodioxaborole, C14H11BO2, are essentially completely planar with a high degree of conjugation. They pack with a herring-bone pattern in the crystal structure. The compound is synthesized with high regioselectivity by hydroboration of phenylacetylene with catecholborane.
