Abstract

Key points Q is an ideographic quantitative research approach for exploring shared subjectivities between individuals Q methodological modelling is based on the idea that people can communicate their subjective opinions using the medium of a systematically ranked set of stimuli A Q set is a set of stimuli designed to represent a concourse or possible views of the world or phenomenon under investigation Q is based on the statistical technique of factor analysis and either principal components or classical factor approaches can be used. Factors can be extracted using either statistical (via varimax rotation) or theoretical (using judgemental rotation) criteria Q results represent the shared perspectives of individuals in the context from which they were derived.
