Abstract

The Boston metropolitan park system conceived by Charles Eliot in the 1890's is known to have been influenced by his reading of Pückler-Muskau. However, what is less known, and what is documented in this article, Werner Hegemann and Leberecht Migge introduced Eliot in Germany as the Americanized Pückler, and their discussions of open space c. 1910 influenced modern planning, including Le Corbusier, a lineage seldom discussed or understood.
