The Trans-European Pedagogic Anatomy Research Group (TEPARG) was founded in 2003 by Professor Bernard Moxham. At that time, Professor Moxham was President of the European Federation for Experimental Morphology (EFEM) and was concerned that scholarly, research-informed and evidence-based approaches to the design and implementation of anatomical education were not being adequately pursued. Consequently, Professor Moxham created TEPARG to promote and support research in anatomical education. Enthusiastic anatomy teachers and anatomy pedagogic researchers from across Europe were invited to meet to share good practice and to create important new projects for the development of anatomical education. The first TEPARG conference was held in-person in Paris, France, in March 2005 and continued annually until the COVID-19 pandemic, with the first hybrid conference held in March 2020 and the first entirely virtual TEPARG conference delivered in 2021. Hybrid conferences have now become the norm, with meetings held physically (initially in Barcelona and now in Lisbon), with a large virtual element, allowing much larger numbers of TEPARG members to attend. TEPARG has also hosted symposia at renowned international meetings, including at the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) 2019 meeting in London, UK. As of 2025, TEPARG has more than 100 active members based at academic institutions across Europe, including Austria, Basque Country, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the nations of England, Scotland and Wales within the United Kingdom. TEPARG has also recently welcomed members and contributors based in other continents, from nations including Australia, Bahrain, Canada, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the USA and Zambia. TEPARG conference abstracts have previously been published in the European Journal of Anatomy and in Anatomia, Histologia, Embryologia and articles arising from projects devised and presented at TEPARG meetings, including work on body donation and contributions to core anatomical syllabuses, have been published in the Journal of Anatomy and Anatomical Sciences Education. However, this is the first volume of work entirely authored by TEPARG members and demonstrates the scope, depth and impact of pedagogic projects conducted by the group
