Abstract

We are interested in how accidental academics develop a sense of belonging to an academic community. At the conference we would like to present our findings from our duoethnographic study of academic success, failure and belonging. The study presents our journey of completing doctoral study whilst being employed as academics in higher education institutions. We explore the complex range of emotions experienced as our perceptions of success, failure and belonging transitioned and fluctuated. The session will be interesting for those who are responsible for staff development and also those who are responsible for PGR students.
