Abstract

This paper proposes a future research agenda that examines the adjustment of Western expatriates living in India to determine the success and failure of their expatriate experience. We propose a framework that explores the factors of prior international assignment, pre-departure training, role clarity, self-efficacy and spouse and family adjustment to examine general, work, interaction and psychological adjustment of Western expatriates. This ultimately will allow future researcher to determine and understand as to what constitutes the success and failure of Western expatriates in India. The theoretical and practical implications of this paper are further discussed.
