Open Access padlockePrints

The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

© 2014, Springer Science+Business Media New York. The aim of this work is to diagnose pre-flare dynamics of magnetic fields in the active regions of the Sun on the HMI SDO magnetograms. We use a tool based on the methods of the geometry of random fields and computational topology. The results show that the proposed formalism allows one to find some precursors of major flares for practically significant time slots.
