Open Access padlockePrints

The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

The U wave in EC"Gs of patients is difficult to observe because it is hidden under the atrial fibrillatoly ifl Meastirement and characteristics of the U Wave in atrial fibrillation have not previously been described. 13eat averaging was used to reveal the U waves in 12 lead EGGS of 8 patients with atrial fibrillation taking account of heart rate dependency of U wave characteristics. LI wave polarity and amplitude in 12-lead ECG and the amplitude ratio of U wave to atrial fibrillatory Wave in lead 171 were measured. U waves were measureable in all patients. LI waves were predominantly positive in /'t,/ I II, cif /F., V2, 1/3, 174, I/5 and V6, neat/v,' in leads aVR. Amplitudes W ere largest in the precorclial lecids measuring up to 55 kir,In lead 171 the I wave amplitude was on average 0.17 (range 0,1 to (1.4) times the amplitude of the atrial fibrillatory W cite. U waves can be measured by ventriculctr beat averaging in AF patients. U waves were normal in this small group ti it
