Abstract

Donor interests and policy initiatives in anti-trafficking globally have come to focus increasingly on securitisation issues in recent years. Anti-trafficking legislation and development funding have subsequently become tied more and more to agendas that aim to tackle the global flows and networks associated with terrorism and organised crime. How do such interests shape the practices and effectiveness of anti-trafficking advocates in specific local settings? How do women who have been affected by trafficking experience criminal justice systems and Non Government Organisation activities relating to prosecution in their own countries and abroad? To what extent do these women see criminalisation and prosecution as the most important ways to prevent other women facing the same experiences?
