The Newcastle University research output collection, currently available on ePrints, will shortly be moving to a new open repository platform, Figshare. To prepare for the data migration we have paused adding new content to ePrints, and will resume once the new repository is launched. During this time you will continue to have access to ePrints (but no new content will appear). We will share updates here when available.

Abstract

In this paper, a blind carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation method for multi-input multi-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems is proposed. The proposed method is based on minimizing the power difference between all subcarriers in two consecutive space-time coding (STC) blocks. The cost function has a simple closed-form expression and the CFO can be estimated accurately using only three trial values. The performance of the proposed estimator is assessed via Monte Carlo simulation. Simulation results illustrate the superior performance of the proposed scheme for MIMOOFDM systems when compared with other blind techniques. ©2009 IEEE.
