Abstract

Study has revealed the role of environmental control on prehistoric human migrations in the Black Sea area, from the initial spread of anatomically modern humans until the establishment of farming communities. The massive outflow of population occurred during the critical periods, in an environment of cold and dry climate signalled by the regressions of the Black Sea. The expansion of farming proceeded during warm and wet periods coeval with the rise of the Black Sea level. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd and INQUA.
